Meet Kenny Morgan

Kenny Morgan was a football and baseball coach at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL for 11 years.  During his tenure, he lead the Colonels to two back-to-back state football championships.  Yet his players remember him for so much more than just winning on the field.  He was not only a coach and mentor, but also an inspiration for all his players including a young Bobby Bowden, the would-be legendary coach of the Florida State University Seminoles.

While at Woodlawn under Coach Morgan, the Colonels amassed four city championships while posting a 78-48-6 overall record, including a 27-game winning streak in the mid-1950s and nine appearances in the Crippled Children’s Clinic. Coach Morgan's baseball teams won three state championships in 1947, 1956 and 1959. The late coach served as athletic director of the Birmingham City Schools for five years. A graduate of Emma Sansom High School and Howard College (now Samford University), Kenny Morgan was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Hall of Fame in 1996.
